International CPE Community of Practice Retreat ReportDec 12, 2022
The International CPE Community of Practice held a hybrid retreat from December 2nd until December 4th. Seventeen people attended in person, seven attended virtually, and 11 countries were represented. The intention of this retreat is to cultivate the relationships that we have not been able to achieve during the COVID pandemic, and it is also to experiment with CPE practice that can be culturally relevant to various cultural contexts.

Simple Foods at ThanksgivingNov 30, 2022
The weather was unseasonably warm at Bethany Beach, DE, this time of year, and we were able to walk on the sand every day under a clear blue sky. The sight and sound of the waves and birds, strangers greeting one another, and children biking filled in the spaces generally reserved for howling wind or rustling leaves in November.

Changing Seasons

With every season comes the earth’s reminder that we live in an ever-changing and evolving world. The landscape looks different as the leaves fall and plants go dormant. As the days get shorter I feel this propensity to go inward. As the fall leadership meetings get underway in Atlanta, ACPE continues its journey of going inward. There continues to be good work happening as we move into new phases of our strategic planning process and anti-bias work. I want to share the board report I submitted for our ACPE Board meeting in mid-November:

Member Reflection: Thin PlacesOct 24, 2022
The Celtic saints often referred to somewhere as a 'thin place'. This referred to when the spiritual atmosphere of a location made it easy to connect with God, almost as though there is no barrier between heaven and earth. I have often reflected on this and have determined that my “thin places” are in the wild spaces of nature, where craggy mountains are smothered with tall evergreens and winding waters tumble over stacks of smooth rocks. My thin place is also in the Holy Temple, a place of stillness where I feel God’s love, and where my thoughts of loved ones who’ve passed are so intensely drawn towards heaven I wonder if perhaps their attention and caring are called down to meet me there.

Executive Director Article: Looking AheadOct 17, 2022
Last week, I was invited to attend a conversation hosted by the American Psychiatric Association Foundation in Washington DC. The attendees were a wonderful mix of psychiatrists, academics, clergy, and nonprofit executives. I was there in my role with the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab, though I was certain to keep ACPE at the table as well. This was not the first meeting of the group, though the attendees included several first-timers like me.

Accreditation Commission – National Site Team Chairs (NSTC) Needed for 6-Year ReviewsOct 3, 2022
The Accreditation Commission is in search of Certified Educators willing to serve as NSTCs for Six-year Reviews starting in 2023. The NSTC model has served ACPE well and is a key element in the relational model of accreditation that fosters mutual accountability.
