2026 JEDIA Grant Cycles

 

The ACPE Foundation's JEDIA Grant Programs offer competitive scholarships and project funding for CPE students, Certified Educator Candidates, and Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy professionals. Through the Hemenway Scholars, Boisen Scholars, and Mission Advancement Program (MAP) Fund initiatives, ACPE advances justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in spiritual care education by reducing financial barriers, expanding opportunity, and cultivating the next generation of spiritually integrated leaders.

 

ACPE Hemenway Scholars Summer Stipend Support for Students (Up to $50,000 in available funding) 

 

Purpose 

Named in honor of Joan Hemenway, a pillar of the association, this scholarship recognizes the significant financial burdens many ACPE students face. 

The Foundation will award stipends of up to $2,000 to as many as 25 summer ACPE students enrolled in an unpaid CPE unit or Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy clinical placement. Funds may be used to support housing, living expenses, educational debt, or other costs associated with participation.

Eligibility 

Applicants must be fully accepted into: 
· An ACPE-accredited CPE program, or 
· An accredited Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy program. 
Some exclusions may apply.

Application Criteria 

Awards will be made to ACPE students who: 
· Have accepted a position in an unpaid summer CPE unit or Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy clinical placement and can provide documentation of acceptance; 
· Identify as part of underrepresented identity groups within ACPE and contribute to the diversity of the spiritual care profession; 
· Demonstrate financial need and the impact this support would have on their ability to participate. 

Hemenway Scholars will be required to submit a written reflection on their learning experiences following completion of their summer unit.

ACPE Boisen Scholars Professional Development Support (Up to $15,000 in available funding) 

Purpose 

Named in honor of Anton Boisen, founder of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), Boisen Scholar Awards support the professional development and formation of ACPE students, Psychotherapists and Certified Educator Candidates. 

Boisen Scholar awards provide financial assistance to attend the ACPE Annual Meeting or a Community of Practice gathering. Funds may be used for registration, lodging, transportation, and other related expenses. 

At the discretion of the Foundation Grants Committee, awards may also include hardship or professional development assistance to support Certified Educator Candidates as they matriculate through their process.

Eligibility 

Applicants must be a current: 
· ACPE Certified Educator Candidate (CEC), 
· CPE Intern or Resident, or 
· Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy student. 

Boisen Scholar funds are limited to one award per student per calendar year.

Application Criteria 

Awards will be made to applicants who: 

· Demonstrate meaningful engagement with ACPE and a commitment to professional formation in spiritual care or spiritually integrated psychotherapy; 
· Identify as part of underrepresented identity groups within ACPE and contribute to the diversity of the spiritual care profession; 

· Demonstrate financial need and the impact this support would have on their ability to participate. 

Boisen Scholars will be required to submit a written reflection following their conference or Community of Practice participation.

Mission Advancement Program (MAP Fund) Award

Project Support for Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy (Up to $15,000)
Application Deadline: June 1, 2026

 

Purpose

 

Funded by disbursements from the Mission Advancement Program (MAP) Endowment Fund, this grant supports ACPE Psychotherapist and Spiritual Care Professional members in advancing the mission of ACPE. MAP funding is designed to expand access to and awareness of Pastoral Counseling/Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy (PC/SIP) through innovative, sustainable projects that reflect ACPE’s values and strategic priorities.

Eligibility

 

Applicants must be:
  • ACPE Psychotherapists, Pastoral Counselors or Spiritual Care Professionals in good standing; or
  • ACPE members or programs actively supporting the field of psychotherapy / spiritually integrated psychotherapy.

Application Criteria

 

Grants of up to $15,000 (one-year, project-seed funding) will be awarded to proposals that:
  • Clearly align with ACPE’s mission, vision, and values, including the advancement of justice, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in spiritually integrated psychotherapy;
  • Expand awareness of PC/SIP among faith communities, helping professions, or the public;
  • Contribute to the recruitment, development, or retention of pastoral counselors, spiritually integrated psychotherapists, or related professionals;
  • Demonstrate a thoughtful plan for sustainability, measurable outcomes, and meaningful impact;
  • Show cost-effectiveness and, when applicable, indicate additional committed funding from other sources.
Note: Funding requests should not exceed $15,000. MAP grants are intended as seed money (not ongoing operating funds) and may be awarded to the same project for up to three consecutive years if criteria are met. Funds may not be used for construction or durable hardware (e.g., computers).

Expectations for Grantees

 

MAP Fund recipients will partner with an ACPE staff liaison for consultation and are expected to:
  • Provide progress and financial reports as requested by the MAP Fund Advisory Committee;
  • Share evaluation data and lessons learned, including project outcomes and reflections that can benefit the broader ACPE community.
