Chair's Reflection: Moving Forward

“I thank my God every time I remember you, always praying with joy for all of you.”
For the last couple of months, despite my best efforts, I have been unable to write an article for the newsletter because my heart has been heavy. There have been one natural disaster after another, and cruelty and injustice nationally and globally that have left me speechless. I further acknowledge that it has been a challenging season for our Association, and we still have some difficult days ahead; however, this is not a new fact. No significant movement that has lasted 100 years has existed without difficulties.
As I near the end of my tenure, I find myself in a reflective space - not just concerning the last two years, but also thinking about how being part of ACPE has had a positive impact on me as a person. God used this imperfect, yet impactful group of people to help me learn to honor and leverage my voice; to value myself as much as I valued others; and to stop apologizing or muting the Calling upon my life.
Many of our students from various walks of life credit ACPE with helping them in similar ways. And many of us are Spiritual Care Professionals because we want to support others as they discover and walk in their ordained purpose.
Last week, the ACPE Board of Directors, Staff, Commissions, and Committees met for the Fall Leadership Meeting. As usual, we all worked very hard. As I listened to the reports from the Recognition Task Force and participated in the cross-Commission conversations at our Leadership Meeting, my resolve was revived. I know that together we have what it takes to become even stronger as we work together to create relational spaces for those we serve, grounded in high regard, honesty, justice, equity, inclusion, and humility.
So, I am feeling hopeful again. I will continue to pray for our Association as we undertake the difficult work necessary to bring to fruition the good work that has begun within us.
Blessings Always, Cecelia
