ACPE Rallies for Giving Tuesday 2024 to Raise $10,000 for the Hemenway Scholars Program

Written by ACPE News

Atlanta, GA – November 25, 2024 – ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care & Education is excited to announce its participation in GivingTuesday 2024, a global movement celebrating generosity and giving back. This year, ACPE aims to raise $10,000 to support the Hemenway Scholars program, which helps aspiring spiritual care professionals overcome financial barriers to complete their Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).

GivingTuesday, taking place on December 3, 2024, harnesses the power of individuals, communities, and organizations worldwide to inspire giving and create positive change. This year is the 10th anniversary of ACPE’s participation in this global initiative, leveraging the day to expand spiritual care education and provide resources for marginalized populations.

Supporting the Next Generation of Spiritual Care Professionals

Named in honor of Joan Hemenway, a pioneering figure in the history of ACPE, the Hemenway Scholars program provides vital financial support to students beginning their CPE journey. Since the program’s launch in 2023, over 40 students have received transformative financial support. By alleviating financial burdens, this program allows students to focus fully on their education and personal growth.

This year’s GivingTuesday campaign will include personal stories from Hemenway Scholars, highlighting how the program has transformed their lives and enabled them to provide compassionate care to those in need.

“As a Hemenway Scholar, I was able to complete my first unit of CPE without the financial strain that could have otherwise held me back,” shared one recent recipient. “The program made it possible for me to fully immerse myself in the learning experience, growing both personally and professionally.”

“This GivingTuesday, we celebrate the generosity that makes programs like the Hemenway Scholars possible,” said Brooks Heard, Board Chair of the Foundation for ACPE. “Every contribution has the power to change a student’s life, support a care recipient in need, and equip a spiritual care provider to serve their community. Together, we can continue building a foundation for exceptional spiritual care and education.”
