ACPE Now Accepting Applications for Volunteer Leaders
As part of my role as Chair-Elect of the Board, I also serve as Chair of the Leadership Development Committee. And we are officially in that season- when we begin planning who will help lead our association in the year(s) ahead. On August 1st, the application process will be opened for you to self-nominate to serve in a leadership capacity within the ACPE. Upon receipt of these applications, the LDC will review them and begin to assemble a slate for election by our membership and board appointments, as designated in our bylaws and governance manual.
A general word of guidance: if you are new to serving in ACPE leadership, we invite you to consider a committee that would be a good fit as you begin your service. Once you have experience at that level, you will be considered more strongly for commission and board roles. Many of you will recognize this progression as a best practice in non-profit leadership in which new volunteers serve on board-appointed committees before considering serving on the board itself.
That said, I am very excited about what lies ahead of us. We have embarked upon our initial efforts to implement the latest strategic plan which included representation from all of your voices. We are certain it will capture much of the best of our history while guiding the association into the new realities ahead of us. If you want to make a difference in our association, please consider applying for a position in leadership.
Also, if you were wondering why we are called the Leadership Development Committee and not the Nominations Committee, well, then you ask good questions! As we continue to grow into our new structures, we intend to work toward a Leadership Development Academy that helps prepare potential candidates for ACPE leadership and supports each of us in our leadership functions within our institutions. We hope not just to find leaders but also to help develop them and bring more value to all of us as members of the association. Be on the lookout for that in the months to come.
If you considered applying for a role this year, please enter this mutual discernment process and send an application our way.
Many thanks,
Matt Rhodes
