Next ACPE SIP Trainer Training in February

ACPE’s Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy (SIP) Program will offer its second SIP Trainer Training February 19-20, 2021 (Friday-Saturday), via Zoom. Read on for more information.

Who Can Be a SIP Trainer?

SIP Trainers are ACPE Psychotherapists with a sense of call to help other therapists develop the knowledge, skills, and way of being to integrate spirituality into the work of psychotherapy. Most SIP Trainers in our first cohort are persons previously certified by AAPC at the Fellow or Diplomate level (see below), but any ACPE Psychotherapist with gifts for embodying the AAPC wisdom tradition and passing it forward is encouraged to apply.

Qualifications to be a SIP Trainer will change in years to come, for this cohort, SIP Trainers must meet these three qualifications:

  • Licensed mental health professional in good standing (or demonstrated equivalency)
  • Previously a Fellow or Diplomate in AAPC (or demonstrated equivalency)
  • ACPE Psychotherapist

And one of the following:

  • ACPE Certified Educator OR
  • Licensed by a state or certified by psychotherapy guild (e.g., AAMFT) to practice supervisor, OR
  • Faculty status at an accredited higher education institution, teaching in a mental health counseling program (or demonstrated equivalency).

Because ACPE wants to develop a diverse network of SIP Trainers, equivalencies will be considered for some of the requirements, and applications will be reviewed with consideration to gender, race, regional, and religious differences. Additionally, because ACPE wants to connect the SIP Program with graduate school training, we welcome applications from persons who are faculty members in higher education settings.

Supported Nationally, Delivered Locally

Here’s the work ACPE SIP Trainers are doing in the communities where they live and work:

  • Teaching the 30-hour SIP Curriculum (for continuing education credit) in the communities where they practice,
  • Providing case consultation for SIP participants seeking ACPE Certification in Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy, and
  • Giving leadership to an ongoing local SIP Community of Practice.

They are supported by ACPE with:

  • All the materials needed to teach the SIP Curriculum (PowerPoint slides for 10 three-hour courses, a detailed Trainers Manual, Participant Manuals, and more)
  • Digital access to all future updates of the SIP Curriculum
  • Ongoing training and support through ACPE SIP Trainer Community of Practice
  • Detailed evaluation from program participants
  • Ability to offer NBCC-approved Continuing Education credit for local trainings
  • Logistical support from ACPE for registration and collecting fees
  • Advertisement through the ACPE website and newsletter
  • Materials to use for local marketing

Do SIP Trainers Get Paid?

Yes. SIP Trainers are offering a service – to other therapists in their community, and to ACPE – but they will have opportunity to be compensated fairly for their work. SIP Trainers can earn income in two ways:

  • Tuition paid by participants for the 30-hour SIP Curriculum, and
  • Fees paid by participants who seek consultation after completing the curriculum

SIP Trainers will determine their own tuition and consultation fees, within a range set by ACPE, at rates that make sense in their local context. SIP Trainers will also incur expenses in offering the curriculum and will build these into the tuition they charge.
