CPE: The Past, Present and Future

Tuesday, May 20, 8:45 AM – 10:15 AM

A round table discussion with members from different “generations” of ACPE Educators. They will reflect on the changes that have occurred over the years, the things that have remained the same, and hopes for the future of the Association. In addition to engaging the members of the round table, the plenary will also provide space for attendees to reflect with each other in smaller groups.

Keynote Session:  At the Intersection of a More Inclusive Future for All

Wednesday, May 21, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Join us for a powerful program at the Sabathani Community Center in south Minneapolis near George Floyd Square.  On the eve of the 5th Anniversary of George Floyd's murder, we will travel via bus to learn from faith community leaders at the intersection of four communities in south Minneapolis.  Listening to their narratives will inspire meaningful discussions on anti-racism and anti-bias among us as educators and psychotherapists. This transformative event will not only honor George Floyd’s legacy but inspire collective action by deepening our understanding of the impact of trauma on recovery and naming what is needed for healing in community.

Since George Floyd's murder, artists and demonstrators have installed several exhibits, paintings, sculptures, and other works of art throughout the community to memorialize Floyd and visualize racial justice themes. Chartered buses will take participants from the hotel to the edge of the memorial area, where an optional pilgrimage will commence on foot through the installations and memorials that now make up George Perry Floyd Square. The walk will end at the plenary venue, Sabathani Community Center.

Please join us in reflecting on our shared responsibility to combat systemic racism in our respective communities and re-commit to creating a more inclusive future for all.

Registration selection is required to participate in this plenary and/or pilgrimage.

Interdisciplinary Case Study Plenary

Thursday, May 22, 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM

The panel will present and discuss a case study on a family that is seeking support following the suicide of one of its elders. Members from the panel will share insights on how this family may receive care in an outpatient psychotherapy context, as well as work with CPE students on the implications of providing care to this family in a spiritual care context.
