Earn a Master of Science (MS) in Patient Counseling at Virginia Commonwealth University while completing a CPE residency at VCU Health. In one year of CPE with us, you can successfully complete 3 units of CPE as well as receive your MS in Patient Counseling. Your curriculum, in addition to traditional CPE content, includes semester-long courses in clinical ethics, chaplaincy research literacy, spiritual care leadership, and preparation for board certification as a chaplain. VCU is an urban level-one trauma center offering experience in the emergency department, surgery, medicine, cardiology, pediatrics, women’s health, psychiatry, corrections (prison ministry) -- and in palliative care as well as organ donation protocols. Our faculty is comprised of national and regional leaders in specialized ministry who are distinguished through publications, research/research grants, plenary and workshop presentations, and elected office.
Resident stipend of $50,000 provided by VCU Health. Benefits include paid time off and low-cost healthcare insurance.
