Kinsugi

Written by Rev. Dr. Yoke-Lye Kwong

The following prayer was written and shared by ACPE Certified Educator Yoke-Lye Kwong at this year's ACPE Chair's Banquet:

The Japanese art of restoring broken pieces of glass (or pottery) is called “Kintsugi.” Literally, it means “Golden Re-Joining.” This art embraces the vision in seeing Beauty in Whole while giving careful attention to the imperfections of the objects. The artist- repairer takes the time; and with great patience pieces together that which was broken. With great love and attention, the cracks and broken pieces are sealed and “healed” in gold. This “re-joining” process highlights the “cracks” - not hide them. It is a meticulous work of patience and love which illuminates the dignity, grace and strength of the process.

As we gather in celebration of this remarkable moment of our ACPE 100th - Centennial landmark, isn’t it appropriate to acknowledge where we are as an organization. It is our “Kintsugi” journey. We are collectively engaging in the art of creative transformation; a journey in her own right. With gratefulness, we break bread and join with one another. Let us give thanks -

Come

Be Fed and Nurtured Rest and Refreshed

Be Challenged and Confronted Construct and Re-Constructed Broken and Re-Joined

Holy One

Look upon us Gently

Remind us that in the night hours of the dark the stars shine the brightest

In the morning

You greet us with the soft sunlight You are our Comforter

The ACPE community has been a Home for us You are here when we go away

You are waiting when we return

You are the Presence around Whom our tears share openly And it is in this broken place our hearts are re-joined in gold We risk fiercely our humanity.

So in Your love, Our Holy One Come

Eat, Drink and Dance with us.

Terima Kasih Gracias Arigato
