A Case of How Much?

If we are being honest with ourselves, when we do our work as educators well, we sometime walk close to the edge with our students. We encourage, nudge, maybe even push a bit at times. Our theories can help us to see when we get close to the edges, but sometimes we miscalculate, and our students can respond by feeling pushed too far. I know I felt that way at times during my CPE student experiences. Maybe you have, too. So, how much is too much?

The Professional Ethics Commission’s purpose is to educate our members about ethics issues. We hope to open up more conversations about our Professional Ethics Standards with you. Our workshop at our annual conference has been dialogical and lively. This session’s case study is modified from one of the cases presented at the annual conference in 2025 by the Anti-Bias Work Group. Our review of the case will focus on the Ethics Standards that frequently get named in student complaints, the issues related to those standards, and how to assess when they cross over into an ethics violation.

Our time will briefly discuss the purpose of the Professional Ethics Commission and our Professional Ethics Standards, and review and discuss the case in breakout rooms. We will then regroup to review the issues related to the case and end with sharing resources. The webinar will last 90 minutes and will be recorded (other than the breakout rooms discussions) for viewing later. We hope you will join us.
