Professional Ethics Commission Investigator Training Session
The Professional Ethics Commission is seeking new investigators for our pool to be available to serve in this essential role. We offer two hours of online training for interested parties. We are especially interested in expanding the diversity of our investigator teams. This training will give an overview of the ethics complaint process and review the investigative phase in detail. Trained investigators always have the option not to serve on any particular case if/when asked. Current investigators are encouraged to take the training again.
The role of an ACPE ethics case investigator is one of the most valued and difficult tasks in our association. It is difficult because it requires learning about a complaint against a peer, maintaining the strictest confidentiality, and addressing the many difficult emotions experienced by the parties and witnesses. At the same time, it is valued because it is difficult and necessary for a fair complaint process to be resolved.
During the investigative phase, as an investigator you will be partnered with a colleague from ACPE or APC (we share a complaint process with APC). The two of you will be supported and guided by our ethics consultant throughout the process. You will meet with the complainant (the person who filed the complaint) and respondent (the person the complaint is lodged against), seek and review documents, interview witnesses and write up a summary for the complaint file.
This training is not available for anyone currently in an active ethics complaint, sanction or accountability review process.
Please direct any questions about this training to Julie Hanada. Thank you for considering serving our members in this manner. Please register here by Friday, February 14.
