ACPE Foundation Announces 2024 Justice, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility Grants

At their May 2024 board meeting, the ACPE Foundation proudly unveiled the recipients of its 2024 grants aimed at advancing justice, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within the ACPE community. These grants mark a significant investment in transformative projects, made possible by the generosity of our dedicated donors.

 

"This year's grants exemplify our commitment to fostering a more inclusive and equitable ACPE environment," said Brooks Heard, Board Chair of the ACPE Foundation. "We are thrilled to support initiatives that will enhance spiritual care education, research, and practitioner diversity across our network."

 

Christopher Brown CEC Ignite Grant Recipient The prestigious Christopher Brown CEC Ignite Grant has been awarded to the Spiritual Care & Education Center at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, under the leadership of ACPE-CE Rev. Dr. Mariclea Chollet. Named in honor of the late Rev. Christopher Brown, a steadfast advocate for equity and inclusion within ACPE Certification, this grant supports the development of ACPE Certified Educator Candidate (CEC) programs. Recipients receive up to $120,000 over three years to establish sustainable CEC programs. Contact ACPE – CE Rev. Dr. Mariclea Chollet.  for more information about this project.

Innovation in Research & Spiritual Care Grants Two innovative projects have been selected for funding through the Innovation in Spiritual Care Education & Research Grants Program:

 

  1. ACO Spiritual Health CPE Fellowship led by ACPE-CE Stephen Faller and Dr. James Barr, M.D. at Atlantic Health / Overlook Foundation, Summit, New Jersey, received $16,000 to integrate Clinical Pastoral Education into accountable care settings.
  2. "We Belong Here! Learning More Authentic Models of Spiritual Care for AAPI in ACPE" led by ACPE Emeritus Educator Julie Hanada, which received $16,000 to explore and enhance spiritual care practices within the Asian American & Pacific Islander community.

Hemenway Scholar Award Recipients Named in honor of Joan Hemenway, a pillar of the association, The Hemenway Scholar Awards, supporting ACPE students during their CPE internships, were granted to:

Each scholar will receive stipends up to $1,500 to alleviate financial burdens associated with their educational pursuits.

 

Boisen Scholar Award Recipients Honoring Anton Boisen, founder of CPE, the Boisen Scholar Awards have been granted to the following students to attend the 2024 ACPE Annual Conference, covering registration, lodging, or transportation expenses:

Funding is available for up to 10 more Boisen Scholars to receive funding to attend a 2024 Summer or Fall CoP gathering.

ACPE Palliative Care Education Research Travel Awards Thanks to a generous gift from California State University, ACPE Foundation awarded travel grants to Joshua Berg and Paul Galchutt to present original research on palliative care education at prominent conferences.

Two more travel awards are still available for 2024.

Mission Advancement Program (MAP) Fund Details regarding MAP Fund Award recipients will be released later this month, furthering ACPE Foundation's mission to promote excellence in spiritually integrated psychotherapy and education.
