Stay Grounded

tereRecently I had planned to listen to a podcast while taking a long walk. As I headed out the door, I launched the program.  The sound was only coming from one of the earbuds.

I was annoyed by this as the earbuds were new and I had only just charged them in their case. Throughout the walk, I remained distracted by the non-functioning earbud.

When I got home, I put them back in the case and charged them again.  The next time I put them on, the sound came clearly through both of the earbuds.

What I realized was that previously, though I had thought I was charging the earbuds, one was not properly positioned in the case.

This seemed to me a good metaphor for my spiritual life.  At times I can look like I am doing the practices, but I am not properly grounded and I do not get the benefit.  I need to rest comfortably in my Source.

These days I am finding that all of us are exhausted.  The recurring waves of the pandemic and adjusting to it have depleted our store of resources.  To remain caring and kind, I need to sit regularly, doing the practices that I know will help me stay replenished.

The need for what we offer is greater than any time I remember.  Take care of yourselves.  Do the things you know help you be grounded, cared for, and loved.
