An Invitation to Join the Work of the Psychotherapy Commission

Written by Tere Tyner Canzoneri, M.Div, LCSW, ACPE Psychotherapist

tereRecently, the ACPE board shared a response to APC’s withdrawal from merger discussions.  In that statement they said “But the world still needs what we believe we can offer. How best to do that now? We have landed on ‘where do we go from here?’”

These are familiar, lingering questions to many ACPE Psychotherapists and Practitioners, and they are questions that capture the heart of the current work of the Psychotherapy Commission. We know we have something to offer that the world needs. The SIP Training program, the Pastoral Care Specialist training program, our continuing education webinars and workshops, and our work on transforming our historic Kanuga conference are innovative ways we are meeting those needs.

Yet questions still remain: how do we leverage existing ACPE structures and create new ones as we continue to integrate into the larger life of ACPE, maintain and nourish our distinct communal identity within ACPE, and establish ourselves as the authority on spiritually integrated psychotherapy to the larger mental health community?

Our investment in growing and strengthening the field of spiritually integrated psychotherapy is one important part of the answer to ACPE’s overall future and to the specific future of ACPE Psychotherapists and Practitioners. As I close my reflection, I ask you to join the work of the Psychotherapy Commission. We want to hear your dreams and draw on your gifts and talents. What are your dreams for how Psychotherapists and Practitioners can enrich ACPE and the broader mental health field? What would you like to offer, help create?  We need your voice as part of this conversation.
