For your professional ethics edification in December

a lake is surrounded by pine trees and there are mountains behind the treesOnce a month the ACPE Professional Ethics Commission (PEC) posts a couple of statements from our Code of Professional Ethics for ACPE Members. Each posting is accompanied by a brief personal reflection from a member of the PEC discussing some ways this person lives these commitments.*

For December, Rev. Karl Van Harn, ACPE Certified Educator from Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services in Grand Rapids, Michigan highlights a resource for professional ethics education developed by the PEC for Certified Educator training.

The PEC highly recommends that all ACPE Certified Educators view this video for their ethical self-awareness, self-reflection, and supervisory practice. The video is about 42 minutes long and, at the end, includes a list of other ethics education resources.

To access the video:

  1. Log in to the ACPE website.
  2. Under “Membership”, click on “Sharepoint Access”.
  3. Log in to Sharepoint with your ACPE e-mail address.
  4. Under “Educator Certification”, find “The Certification Process” column, and click on “Phase II”.
  5. An “ACPE Certified Educator” page appears. Look under “Core Curriculum,” find the “Phase II” column, and click on “Professional Ethics”.
  6. Click on the YouTube video of “Professional Ethics: Certification Process Core Curriculum Module Phase II”.

The video shares some of the wisdom we have gained from reflecting on our experiences in professional ethics as an association. We trust it will be valuable for all educators in our ongoing process of reflecting on the practicalities of ethics in our CPE work.
