ACPE Condemns Incidents of Violence and Hate against Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Individuals of Asian Descent

“Love takes off the masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within. I use the word "love" here not merely in the personal sense but as a state of being, or a state of grace - not in the infantile American sense of being made happy but in the tough and universal sense of quest and daring and growth.”
- James Baldwin, The Fire Next Time

During this past year, our nation has witnessed a dramatic increase in incidents of violence and hate against Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and individuals of Asian descent. ACPE is horrified by these trends and calls upon us all to fight back against racism and xenophobia.

ACPE embraces the prophetic call to unashamedly speak out against injustices and violence targeting Asian communities. We are proud of our Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Asian members and students and everything they contribute to our association, culture, and communities. Therefore, we stand firm in our commitment to both lend our voice in support of and passionately work for equality and justice.

ACPE stands in solidarity with those directly and indirectly harmed by racism and hate, while we continue our work to eliminate racism and bias in our organization. As the Standard for Spiritual Care and Education, ACPE initiated the work of the Anti-Bias Task Force in 2018 in response to long-standing inequities in our cultures that infect and influence our ways of being and working together.

ACPE is here to support you. Please reach out to ACPE’s Board of Directors, Anti-Bias Task Force members, or staff for support and assistance.
