2025 Bowen Family Systems Annual Webinar

Virtual

October 24, 2025

9:00 AM Eastern Time to 12:00 Noon Eastern Time

All ACPE members are invited to the Bowen CoP Fall workshop. Our guest presenter will be Kathleen Smith, PhD. Dr. Kathleen Smith is a licensed therapist and writer who lives in Washington, DC. A faculty member of the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family, she teaches Bowen family systems theory to leaders around the globe. Breaking down therapy concepts into witty, relatable stories for readers, Dr. Smith is the author of the books True to You and Everything Isn’t Terrible, as well as the popular Substack newsletter, The Anxious Overachiever.

The workshop will be divided into two parts:

Lecture 1: Asking Questions in a Quick Fix Culture: Introducing Curiosity to an Anxious System

- This presentation will explore the science of curiosity and how systems thinking offers a way for individuals to stay curious about life's challenges. How does getting curious about one's functioning in their family of origin translate into more curiosity in one's ministry with students, patients and families?

Lecture 2: 50 Ways for Things to Get Better: Introducing Flexibility and Creativity to an Anxious System

- This presentation will explore how individuals learn to operate with more flexibility and creativity in their work, moving outside of predictable and comfortable positions. Also, how do Educators and chaplains engage students, patients and families to think about their own capacity for flexibility in anxious times.

This is a virtual workshop. A zoom link will be sent to participates who register in advance. Please click on the link below to register.

There is no cost for this workshop thanks to a grant from ACPE.
