Valley Baptist Health System (VBHS) is one of many systems within Tenet Healthcare Corporation, which consists of two medical centers located in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen, Texas (VBMC-H) is an acute care hospital facility with over 500 beds and numerous specialty care areas and programs. It is celebrating 100 years of service in 2025. Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville, Texas (VBMC-B) is a 243-bed hospital that has provided a broad range of quality medical and health care services to the Brownsville community since 1923. The rich Hispanic culture of the Rio Grande Valley area, coupled with its close proximity to Mexico, will afford the successful candidate with the opportunity to experience ministry and education in a multi-cultural environment. Adding to this cultural mix is a large influx of visitors from the northern states and Canada during the winter months. As an added bonus, Harlingen and Brownsville are located a short drive from the beautiful beaches at South Padre Island.
The Director of Pastoral Services & Education will be a certified ACPE Educator who loves the integration of service and education, education and service. The scope of this leadership position is to oversee the professional spiritual care and education for the Valley Baptist market, which included the above two hospital and a micro hospital in Weslaco, Texas. This role will lead to reestablishing an Accredited CPE Center, as well as oversee and mature the professional spiritual care for the system. Also, this person will collaborate with the Chief Mission & Ministry Officer to effectively promote the mission of Valley Baptist to mature a whole-person-care community for patients, families and staff in the pursuit to “achieve health for life”.
Qualifications for Director of Pastoral Services & Education at VBHS:
Candidates will be a Certified ACPE Educator (Phase II CEC encouraged to apply). Candidates will have ecclesiastical endorsement by a recognized faith group, and BCCI certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains or its affiliate cognate group is preferred. Professional chaplaincy experience in a clinical setting is required. The ability to communicate in English and Spanish is preferred.
