The VA North Texas Health Care System is accepting applications for 1st and 2nd residency programs in the area of Spiritual Care to Veterans.

 

This program is for those who have an interest in and passion for providing spiritual care to those suffering with physical and mental health issues. CPE Residents and Fellows have clinical placements in areas,  such as general medical units, intensive care units, substance use disorder services, PSTD and Trauma Services, Acute Mental Health Services, Mental Health and Homelessness Services, and Outpatient Mental Health Care Services. Being recognized for as a stellar health care system which provides care for one of the largest Outpatient Mental Health Services populations, these residency position offers individuals the opportunity to provide spiritual care to those who carry the scars of our nation - both emotional and physical scars. Students have to opportunity to learn the art of providing spiritual care to individuals and groups. Being well integrated into the Health Services and clinics, student become a part of an interdisciplinary team to meet the holistic needs of our Veteran population. The Center’s curriculum for this program focuses on learning the art of spiritual care, spiritual assessments and documentation, as well as, clinical language, diagnosis and evidence-based therapeutic methodologies as we translate this language into the language of spiritual care. Our residency programs are interdisciplinary within its nature. There are 4th and 5th year Psychiatric Residents who participate within the group setting.

 

Requirements for the positions:

 

Master of Divinity Degree (from a CHEA recognized seminar or school of religion)

Endorsement by a religious judicatory (or in process)

1 - 4 units of CPE (preferably one unit of CPE)

Completed ACPE application (with required essays and evaluations of previous units of CPE)

Interview by faculty of the center

Invitation to participate in the program from center faculty

 

The 1st year students receive a stipend of $39,212.00 and 2nd year of 41,957.00 plus employee health care benefits. The VA does not charge tuition nor an application fee. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). There are no on-call evening requirements for the positions.  Students completing this program receive four units of CPE (Level 1 or 2) and a certificate of completion for a VA Chaplain Residency or Fellowship in the Mental Health program.
