Asbury Theological Seminary announces multiple faculty positions in Counselor Education and Supervision in the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care to serve in CACREP-accredited programs on the Wilmore, Kentucky campus and/or the Orlando/Asbury Seminary Global Delivery Platform. Preferred candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to the integration of counseling and Christianity within the Wesleyan theological tradition, academic leadership, or the potential for academic leadership within the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care, including knowledge of CACREP standards and the process of preparing CACREP self-studies, excellence in teaching and supervision, and scholarship or the potential for scholarship in counseling, counselor education, and/or counselor supervision. Candidates must identify as Professional Counselors.

Candidates must offer demonstrable or transferable pedagogical and andragogical competencies in counselor education and supervision with an emphasis upon effective teaching in in-person instruction, online instruction, hybrid and/or intensive course instruction at the Seminary’s Kentucky and Asbury Global sites (currently the Orlando School of Ministry, Tulsa, Memphis, and Colorado Springs). Appointment locations are established by the needs of the Department’s growing CACREP programs.

Orlando/Asbury Seminary Global Delivery Platform Counselor Educator faculty position. At least one faculty appointment is dedicated to the Orlando/Asbury Seminary Global Delivery Platform. The successful candidate will bring administrative skills, excellence in teaching on multiple platforms, especially in online delivery, and specialization in clinical mental health counseling.

Wilmore, KY Counselor Educator faculty position. At least one faculty appointment is
dedicated to the Wilmore, KY campus. This successful candidate will bring administrative
skills, excellence in teaching on multiple platforms, and specialization for at least one of the candidates in marriage, couples, and family counseling.

Specific teaching assignments are determined by programmatic needs in collaboration with the faculty in the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care, and in consultation with the Deans (Beeson School of Practical Theology, Orlando School of Ministry) and the Provost.

The preferred, though negotiable, starting date is July 1, 2021. Multiple positions are tenure track and the rank is open, contingent upon qualifications and experience, and one position is a one-year, non-tenure-track appointment, with rank contingent upon qualifications and experience. The normal teaching load for full-time faculty will be six courses per year, as determined by the Provost and Deans, with an eleven-month contract and possible teaching deployments within the eleven-month time frame as determined by programmatic needs. These needs are directed by the faculty in the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care, in consultation with the offices of the Provost and Deans.
Tenure-track Asbury Seminary faculty are eligible to apply for a one-semester sabbatical leave every 3 years to assist with scholarly productivity, service to the Seminary and the church, and to respond to global needs related to counseling, counselor education, and supervision.

 

The initial faculty appointment and required residential living requirement, contingent upon the candidates’ competencies and the institution’s staffing needs, will be determined by the institution and will likely be either in the Wilmore/Lexington (Kentucky), Orlando (Florida), or Atlanta (Georgia) areas. These counselor educators will be appointed to serve in the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care, and, as a counselor educator, will be appointed as a member of the Beeson School of Practical Theology or the Orlando/Global faculty team.

Depending on the candidates’ geophysical location, they will identify with the Wilmore, Kentucky team or the Orlando/Asbury Seminary Global faculty team while they serve the counseling programs housed in the Department of Counseling and Pastoral Care.  To serve as CACREP core faculty, candidates must have completed the Ph.D. or comparable degree in Counselor Education and Supervision. Candidates must be Licensed Professional Counselors/Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors or be license eligible as professional counselors within their state of residence. Alternatively, candidates with related doctoral degrees must have been employed as full-time faculty members in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013 (CACREP 2016 Standards Section 1.W).

A proven and successful record of, or potential for, academic leadership within the department is highly desirable.
